ethos of ABCL
• The ABCL is a group of like-minded people whose aim is to prevent the illegal killing and capture of birds in Lebanon and promote bird conservation.
• We monitor and record illegal killings.
• We monitor and report the illegal sale of live and dead birds.
• We are concerned about all forms of illegal bird killing, shooting, nets, glue and the use of illegal calling machines and decoys.
• We advocate for better control within the Law.
• As an organisation, we are not anti-hunting, provided it is done in a way that is in full accordance with the law.
• We see a difference between legal responsible hunters and illegal shooters and poachers.
• Responsible hunters can be advocates for conservation. Some of our members prove this case.
• We recognize that the hunting law is fairly good and the Ministry of Environment have created something that should work for everyone. However, the Ministry of the Interior must facilitate implementation and enforcement. They have made a good start in Autumn 2018, but there remains a lot to do.
• We reserve the right to change our opinions in the future depending on the evolving situation and new information that is published.
We envision a world in which the Lebanese people conserve nature in all its diversity.
We wish to see people in Lebanon living in greater harmony with nature and in a more sustainable way.
We envision a green Lebanon, where diverse partners collaborate to ensure that resident and migratory bird species and their habitats are protected, where their protection is valued by society, and where biodiversity conservation is considered in policy decision-making.
We wish the forests, lakes, mountains and skies of Lebanon to be safe for birds. We want hunters to respect the law and that illegal activity is suitably punished.
